Who is equine veterinarian Lucas Troch?

Lucas graduated in 2019 from Ghent University with a Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine, specializing in horses, with honors.

An article based on his master's thesis was published in the journal "Reproduction of Domestic Animals," and he was awarded the prize for the most meritorious master's thesis by the WVGP.

During his academic journey, Lucas engaged in various internships to gain experience in equine medicine. He completed internships in the Netherlands at the Someren Equine Clinic and at "De Bosdreef."

After his studies at Ghent University, he furthered his expertise in equine veterinary medicine through an internship at the renowned Equine clinic De Bosdreef in Moerbeke-Waas. Under the guidance of five top specialists, he rotated through surgery, medical imaging, anesthesia, internal medicine and orthopedics. The emergency room was also very enriching. In total, about 4500 cases were treated in one year.

Over the years, Lucas has had the opportunity to collaborate and consult intensively with renowned veterinarians such as Dr. Frederick Bruyninckx, Dr. Leo De Backer, Dr. Wim Mallisart, Dr. Willem Verhaeghe – all experts in their field, from whom he has gained valuable insights.

As the resident veterinarian at Stephan Conter's Stephex Stables from 2020 till 2024, Lucas has worked closely with top riders, including Daniel Deusser, Kendra Brinkop, Lorenzo De Luca, who have represented the stable in various competitions.

Lucas is also an official FEI veterinarian, having served as the treating veterinarian at 5*, 4*, 3*, and 2* showjumping events, including the Brussels Stephex Masters and Knokke Hippique.

Lucas continues his professional development with ongoing training and participation in highly regarded specialized programs such as ISELP, Dutch Equine Conference, and Veterinary Sport Horse Congress.
